Having founded the Empire in 1987, by 1992 he realized he was not the only person with a micronation and soon founded the website for the Aerican Empire. Given his background in psychology and psychiatry, he is one of the few micronationalists able to make an educated and medically-grounded assertion that while many consider micronationalism as odd or unusual, it is completely sane. Emperor Lis may be the only man ever to have his writings published in both the Journal of the Canadian Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Weird Tales Magazine in the same year. He also wrote the Y-Bon Protocol, which explains how to handle trolls who declare war or threaten micronational leaders. In 2025, he hosted the Montréal iteration of MicroCon.

Emperor Lis exemplifies the ability for micronationals and macronationals to work together for the common good. He continues to promote micronationalism through his work, and is a symbol of the common sense factor.
